United Christian Church Community News LINCOLNVILLE CHURCH has dedicated the NEW ORGAN The Church Organ Legacy Fund Committee explored several different makes of instruments and decided unanimously on the Rodgers Masterpiece Trillium Customized 788. It is an instrument that will be a part of church worship and community events for generations. The church celebrated its heritage through music and sacred readings. Reverend Doctor Susan Stonestreet spoke on the topic of music and prayer in her sermon entitled "Rejoice in the Lord always." Principal organist Jim May accompanied the congregational singing and performed Parry's "Jerusalem" for the Music of Praise. The afternoon recital featured three organists associated with the church. Lincolnville resident, Dorothy Koski, organist at the John Street United Methodist Church, played American classic hymns including "When In Our Music God Is Glorified" in memory of organist Sandra Rowling. Peter Walker, a sophomore at CHRH and studying with Koski, played the 1821 reed organ and a selection on the Rodgers. Principal organist Jim May played several selections including Bach's Prelude in F Major, Langlais' Pasticcio, and Purcell's Trumpet Voluntary in D Major. The Church Organ Legacy Fund Committee is grateful to the congregation and the community for their spiritual support and financial generosity. The funds raised exceeded the purchase price. The surplus will be used to establish a scholarship program to assist in the training of organ students. Piano teachers and student who are interested in exploring this opportunity should contact Mary Schulien, music director, at 785-3521.
